About myself

Who Am I?

Hello! My name is Karma Chimi, a 22-year-old student currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in primary education at Paro College of Education. I was born in Tshon-gang, nestled in Toedtso gewog under Trashi Yangtse, a remote and tranquil village in the eastern region of Bhutan, where the captivating view of India’s valleys near Arunachal Pradesh (Tawang) fills the horizon. Growing up in this serene setting taught me resilience, simplicity, and an appreciation for life's raw beauty.

I am the youngest of nine siblings in a large yet loving family. While our family faced financial hardships and an unstable background, we found joy in the richness of shared love, laughter, and togetherness. These experiences shaped my character and taught me the values of perseverance and optimism—qualities that continue to guide me through life’s challenges.

As a child, I dreamed of becoming a doctor and worked tirelessly toward this goal. I poured my heart into my studies, especially the science stream, believing that medicine would be my destiny. However, life had its own plans. A single mistake during a chemistry exam left me heartbroken, making me believe my dreams were shattered. Despite this setback, I passed the exams and was redirected to a new path: education. Initially uncertain, I embraced this journey with an open heart and adopted optimism and determination as my guiding principles.

I now view teaching not just as a profession but as a profound opportunity to inspire and shape future generations. While I may not have become a doctor, I find immense motivation in the idea that I can nurture and guide countless future doctors, leaders, and changemakers through my teaching. My dream is to not only be a good teacher but a great one—a mentor who empowers learners to reach their full potential. Though I am currently focused on teaching primary-level learners, my heart aspires to guide older students and engage in specialised teaching roles. To align with this vision, I am eager to pursue advanced courses and training that will prepare me to teach higher-level learners.

Beyond my academic and career goals, I am determined to expand my skills in areas like coding and forex trading. These new pursuits excite me and represent my desire to explore versatile opportunities for personal and professional growth. Though procrastination and academic responsibilities occasionally slow me down, my commitment to these ambitions remains unwavering. In my free time, I enjoy playing traditional Bhutanese games, diving into books, travelling to explore new horizons, and indulging in online gaming. These hobbies provide balance in my life, connecting me both to my cultural roots and to the broader world.

At the core of my journey is a deep belief in the Buddhist principle of karmic action, which reminds me of the profound impact our actions and intentions have on our lives. It is this philosophy, coupled with the lessons from my life’s twists and turns, that inspires me to keep striving, learning, and growing. For me, every step I take, whether a stumble or a triumph, adds to the story of my growth and resilience. Through teaching, learning, and continuous self-improvement, I aim to leave a meaningful legacy that reflects the values I hold dear.

ICT as informative tools

Informative tools give us access to huge amounts of information in formats like text, images, graphics, sound, and video. Having these resources at our fingertips has completely changed how we learn and find information. Instead of relying on just textbooks or lectures, we can explore topics in more depth and from different perspectives. These tools make learning more flexible and engaging. Before I learnt the term "informative tools", I often used resources like online encyclopaedias and educational websites without realising what they were called. Tools such as online encyclopaedias, educational websites, and digital libraries offer a vast range of information in various formats, including text, graphics, audio, and video. For example, when writing research papers, I would use Google Scholar to find academic articles, watch YouTube videos for visual explanations, and explore interactive maps to better understand global trends. This would assist in making the research proc...

Summary.

Over the course of maintaining this blog, I explored how Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is reshaping education. My reflections are based on personal experience and practical classroom examples, highlighting three main roles of ICT: as informative, communicative, and constructive tools. First, informative tools have made a huge difference in how we learn and research. Instead of relying only on textbooks or lectures, we now use online encyclopaedias, educational websites, digital libraries, and multimedia resources to access information in text, images, audio, and video formats. For example, when working on research papers, I combine resources like Google Scholar for academic articles, YouTube for visual explanations, and interactive maps for global trends. These tools have helped me become a more independent learner, improved my research skills, and taught me to evaluate the credibility of sources. However, the sheer volume of information online can be overwhelming, mak...
